How to care for your vintage watch so it lasts a lifetime

>

Buying a vintage watch is the first step, but keeping it in good condition is what ensures it will last for decades to come. Rescued watches, although restored and ready to wear, require certain special care to preserve their value and functionality.

The first tip is to avoid excessive exposure to water and humidity. Although many antique watches were water-resistant in their day, the seals may have deteriorated over time. It is best to avoid getting it wet unless it has been specifically sealed after restoration.

Another key aspect is storage. Keep your watch in a dry, safe place, preferably in a padded watch box. This will protect it from shocks, dust, and sudden changes in temperature.

It is important to clean it regularly, using a soft cloth to remove dust or sweat. Never use abrasive products or harsh chemicals, as these could damage the case or strap.

Every 3 to 5 years, it is recommended that you have the mechanism thoroughly checked by a specialist. This includes disassembly, lubrication, and calibration to ensure maximum accuracy.

Finally, take care of the strap. If it is leather, avoid moisture and use special creams to keep it supple. If it is metal, cleaning it with a soft brush will be enough to restore its shine.

At Rescued Watches, we don’t just sell restored watches: we also give you guidelines so you can enjoy them for a lifetime. Because a good watch is an investment that, with proper care, can be with you forever.
